Teaching Students in the Real World
It has been said: hands-on, real-world experience is education like no other.
Operating
on that time-tested premise, INSTAR extends its reach to college and
high-school students through mentoring and internships, giving
unparalleled hands-on experience, while actively involving them in
something simpler, something even more important: the joy of learning.
Fascinating
classes, which delve into entomology, ecology, and conservation will be
offered alongside lectures and demonstrations on biodiversity, habitat
conservation and gardening for butterflies and pollination among
others.
Students delight in
visits from the traveling "Bugmobile," which transports live insect
demonstrations and age-appropriate lessons right to the doors of the
schools!
Professional Development for Teachers
Teachers are still learning too!
The
INSTAR Center conducts teacher-training workshops that bring
environmental science right into the classroom and will demonstrate the
best ways to optimize the inimitable facilities of Butterfly Kingdom
during field trips. An effective combination is to utilize these
lessons in school, in the children's own classroom, followed by a
rewarding day-long visit to Butterfly Kingdom, reinforcing the lessons
even deeper in their minds. Butterfly Kingdom's in-house staff will
treat each classroom to custom-tailored, hands-on programs that will
awaken a sense of awe and awareness about butterflies, insects, and the
environment in every teacher and student.
Through
state-of-the-art technology such as Internet conferencing in addition
to face-to-face training, teachers will learn innovative ways of
educating that will capture - and hold spellbound -- the attention of
students.
