The INSTAR Center
The Vision of INSTAR
The driving philosophy of Butterfly Kingdom -- and the very reason for
its conception -- is to foster science education for all of our guests,
especially for children. With this vision came the creation of the
INSTAR (Invertebrate Science, Teaching, and Research) Center, an
educational non-profit corporation that cultivates and manages the
education and research within Butterfly Kingdom. The INSTAR Center's
vision is "to advance environmental education, scientific
investigation, and the conservation of biological diversity utilizing
invertebrates as the primary catalyst."
INSTAR: Taking Education to New Heights
Science will no longer be viewed as "boring."
That's
because -- housed within Butterfly Kingdom -- the INSTAR Center's
knowledgeable staff brings science to life, whether directly to the
region's classrooms or, on-site, to Butterfly Kingdom.
Unique
interactive exhibits on insects and their environment broaden the
horizons of science to guests and students. It is estimated that over
80,000 schoolchildren from the Southeastern US will visit the INSTAR
Center annually. Imagine the impact! The unforgettable on-site
experience is then supplemented with technologically advanced web-based
learning including interactive field guides, downloadable curricula and
interactions with the research lab, all which greatly expand the
education potential of the INSTAR Center worldwide.
